After the Hard Reset, your device is supposed to bring you back to your Today screen or at least the startup Dell logo. Do not expect anything else to happen.

You then need to just continue with the upgrade and it should be plain sailing from there.

Run the AximUpdate Utility
Hard Reset
Click Continue as soon as the device restarted.

Leave the device in the cradle the whole time... don't try to do anything more.

I did just that and everything went well.

BTW The X51v started going really fast after this A12 upgrade for me too. I think everyone had this same experience.

I have not upgraded to A12. My X51V is operating just great, and thought of all those issues, not to mention the manual reinstallation of all my programs and apps, gives me a nervous stomache, not to mention the amount of time it will take me. Dell just upgraded me to an X51V after I griped that they had breached the warranty on my X50V by not allowing it to run WM5. They finally consented and sent me the X51V, at which time I had to manually reinstall my programs. What a drag! So, I do not want to go through that again, and for the time being, I'll stick with A06.

Take a look at my thread Problem with third party hi-capacity battery which suggests that A12 may be the cause of a third party battery no longer working.

Hello, i am trying to upgrade my axim x51v, but still having issues. i have followed your instructions but the System Update program have the Continu button disabled . I have started the update, it copied the rist file, then i canot get start coppying the rom image. Any ideas of what to do ?

I'm awaiting my new x51v, as my screen was all messed up on my current one. I'm wondering if it will come with AO12. If not, does anyone suggest I do that before I load my programs into the new one? Also, with the Fake Server fix trick, should I do that before I upgrade to AO12 (if needed) or wait until after I've upgraded?

You need to wait because you will have to do a hard reset.

ROM update went fantastic, way better Wireless connections, less dropped streaming, faster processing, all positive no negative, glad I decided to visit here again. Appretiate all the help guys.

Hi, I'm new to this forum and to any other.
I've been trying to update the ROM of my Ax x51v but every time I get to the hard reset part, I get the same problem others have wrote about. The hardreset just flashes byand I can't do it. I tried all that I read herebut to no avail. Nothing works. I can't do a hard reset. One of you guys said that the update could be done even if the Ax doesn't have a hard reset but it doesn't. Can anyone help, please!?
