A few people sent me this press release today, http://www.google.com/press/pressrel/gmail.html. After reading it, I quickly came to the conclusion that it's an April Fool's Joke. However, it IS listed in their Press Releases area.

I vote that it's an April Fool's Joke.

Ill be so upset if this is an april fools joke. Last week someone told me google can be used as a reverse phone book and a calcuator and all thier products are so awesome I would totally use a google email service. OMG they should make a global im too. Google rocks.

I just can't imagine the co$t of the storage that millions of users could potentially have. I suppose that each user gets 1GB of storage in theory, but they won't necessarily use it. When storage becomes a problem, Google will add more?

I'm curious to see how this plays out.

It seems crazy but everything I read about it says that storage is insanely cheap right now and a gig of storage should draw a lot of customers. I just want to see the look on the faces of hotmail and yahoo mail ceo's.

I agree and disagree. I agree that it's for real, is saw most of the links in the previous posts. I think the 1 GB part is a hoax . . . So it would be a half hoax ;-)

Yeah, but if you go to http://www.gmail.com and click the more info link, you'll see that they will actually provide 1GB of storage!
