Microsoft sits on the cusp of a break in the cell phone arena — where it has so far lost millions.
No. 4 cell phone maker Samsung will launch a cell phone running Microsoft's Smartphone operating system by year's end, Microsoft says. No. 2 Motorola is working on a Microsoft-powered phone, too, which is also scheduled for release this year, Reuters reported Thursday. Microsoft and Motorola wouldn't comment.
The deals are huge for Microsoft as it struggles to break into the market for "smart" phones, which combine features of cell phones and personal digital assistants (PDAs).
