Used devices, X51v, outlook install issue
Hello I am a newbie who is 100% not geek, know enough to be dangerous, and I have proved it to myself, who has just become the proud owner of a beautiful Axim X51v. I have been kicking the tires for a few days and have just got around to installing the Activesync(4.0) and Outlook 2002 from the "Getting Started" Disc. It appears the outlook 2002 is a one time only installation and does not seem to want to install on my puter. The install went through the motions and indeed it shows in my programs list on the desk top but when plugging in the device for the first time I was told it was not there. Also the wizard showed it not to be installed. Syncing with outlook was one of the major factors in purchasing this device. Does anyone know how I can get outlook to work with my situation. Thanks

Either Outlook didn't install properly or you haven't launched it yet to configure it for your email account. If you haven't launched and configured it yet, do that before trying to sync.
If Outlook didn't install properly, you should perform a repair installation on it. From add/remove programs on your desktop, go to Outlook 2002 and select the option to change (it may be worded as repair). It will launch the Outlook installer with options to repair or uninstall. Select repair, it might ask for your disk.
You should use ActiveSync 4.2 instead of 4.0., MS released the updates for good reasons.

Outlook install
The bundled software that came with your axim lets you repair from there. Just insert CD and follow the prompts, it starts up and the first link is repair or install critical programs, next screen gives you the choice of outlook or activesync!

I tried to launch it but my desktop indicated it was already launched. I will try the repair option. As for 4.2, my thinking was to install the 4.0 THEN upgrade, is this not necessary? Part of my reasonong was the comfort of a walk through with the wizard.

To update this, I have managed to get things installed successfully. Tried the repair, things happened but still would not work. Sync wizard still showed not installed, ran repair on AS and tried to install Outlook again, no dice. Clicked the re-try on the wizard and about the third time of asking it installed. All's well on that front. This site is a god send.
Anyone know how I remove the previous owners name from the AS pop up. I entered owner info on the device but clearly something other than that needs to be done.
Tomorrows adventure will involve upgrading to AS 4.2 and then on to the ROM install. Scary for me but I'm feeling a bit ****y now LOL. Thanks all for the input.
