I want to try to fix the annoyance, but I could not find a: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\RNDISFN1\Parms\TcpIp in my registry. I only have:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SAM
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SECURITY
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM

Did I do the installation of my ActiveSync incorrectly?

You are looking at the registry of your desktop computer. You need to be looking at the registry of your Axim. Use PHM registry editor, I have a link to it in an above post.

You should see this:

Question I'm really stumped!!

I read IOI's solution and attempted to fix the problem as he laid it out (Read Below - don't know how to do the "quote" feature)

THE SOLUTION:

1. Remove the Axim X51V from the cradle.
2. Edit the X51V registry. I used PHM Registry Editor Version 0.7.
3. Look for the registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\RNDISFN1\Parms\TcpIp
Change
EnableDHCP=1
to
EnableDHCP=0
4. Quit the registry editor using Tools > Exit. I did not soft reset the X51V.
5. After making the above registry change, dock the X51V. I waited more than 30 minutes and still no error. Before the registry change, the error appeared between 1 to 3 minutes after docking the X51V
.

Here are my problems: First of all, I tried to download PHM Registry Editor Version 0.7 from from freeware but it didn't seem to work...should I be opening it or saving it. If I'm supposed to save it, where do I save it to? Once I am able to download PHM Registry Editor Version 0.7, where do I find the registry key for my Axim X51v so that I can make the change to the DHCP?

You should select desktop installer via ActiveSync (default choice) from the download options on their page, then run the msi file after it's downloaded. Sync your Axim and the program will install itself on your device. Once it's installed, when you run the program, the location of the registry key will become evident when you browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\RNDISFN1\Parms\TcpIp.

I must be a REAL dummy, Mahstah. I downloaded it onto my laptop hard drive from the PMH link you had provided in a previous note. I went through the download process and one of the steps was Add/Remove Program and it was not listed. It said if its not listed then its not a version designed to go on my mobile. I want to download version 7. Can you reindicate exactly what I should be downloading. Sorry for the stupid questions.

Thumbs up Active Sync errors: TCIP/Unable to connect/Get IP address

I've gotten these errors with my Axim ever since I'd gotten it. Figured it was part of owning the device.

Recently I downloaded and installed ACTIVE SYNC 4.5 Beta and while'st not being able to connect to my cradled Axim, I ran the built in Diagnostic tool which pointed me to the following website:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobi...reoptions.mspx

Which offers a SOLUTION to the problem by (apparently) disabling TCP/IP on
the Axim<=>PC connection.

By simply following these instructions, my cradled and unresponsive Ax51v connected and began syncing.

ActiveSync Troubleshooter: More Options
If other troubleshooting efforts have been unsuccessful, you can try the following.Do one of the following:

1. On a Windows Mobile powered Pocket PC, tap Start > Settings > Connections.

2. Click or tap USB to computer.

3. Clear the Enable advanced network functionality check box.

(if your Axim has the same "problem" as mine, it will instantly start syncing with your desktop)

After making this change, I no longer have a 10BT network connection to my Axim, however it IS connected. Will see if this breaks Bluetooth syncing.

Enjoy!

(moderators might want to add this to a FAQ file or somewhere easier to find)

Good info Mark! The link doesn't say anything about our specific error message but if it fixes it, it's better than people going through the registry when they don't really know what they're doing.

Note: The "USB to computer" option is only available for users with ROM A12 or greater.

Edit: ActiveSync 4.5 beta broke my web surfing ability when the Axim was cradled and has been known to cause other problems. Be careful that you don't attribute new problems to the 'USB to computer" option when they could be caused by AS 4.5.

Mahstah:

I just checked and was able to Surf on my Axim Ax51v with A12 while using AS4.5b2 and turning off "advanced network functionality".

Agreed while this does not specifically address the DHCP/TCPIP problems, it is a "work around" by disabling TCPIP on the cradle connection.

Instead of two computer screens in the bottom right corner of my Axim's screen (designating 2 linked computers) there is one screen with a mobile device showing a link between them.

Bummer on the A12 restriction.

Are you able to use the "patch" with AS4.2?

(I don't really wish to downgrade back to AS4.2 to test it as 4.5 seems to work right now)

I was unable to successfully install the PHM registry editor so I loaded another:

http://www.freewareppc.com/utilities/tre.shtml - this was much easier.

I followed IOI's solution and corrected the nuisance - thanks IOI.

Mbloof,

Thanks for this! I used this fix to repair the ever annoying "Network" error message, I was also having other problems with Activesync losing connectivity and program installation problems which it also solved.
