Hello :
I finally broke down and joined the PDA universe. After alot of research, I decided on a Dell x5. I didn't have alot of money to spend, so I bought one on ebay - an x5 Advanced (400 mhz, 64meg memory). I just got it and have begun the learning process.
In doing so, I've come across a few things that I don't understand, and I was hoping someone out there might be able to sort them out for me. Sorry about this - but I've never owned a PDA before, so my questions might seem a little stupid for you. Also, while computers and I get along fairly well, I'm not a real techie. So, please bear with me.
First, when I run ActivSynch 3.7.1, I noticed that for some reason, it is not synching with my Microsoft Outlook Express on my desktop. It does not load any of my e-mails in my inbox to my PDA. It gives me an "attention required" message for my INBOX. When I click on the "Resolve Items" link, a message box comes up that says "Items of one or more information types cannot be synchronized. Disconnect and reconnect your device". When I do that, it begins resynching, but comes up with the same "Attention Required" message. What am I missing here ?
Second, when I first synched my X5 to my desktop, I assumed it would load up my contact list from Outlook Express, but it's not. I run Windows XP with Microsoft Outlook Express 6 in case you are wondering. What do I need to do to get my contact list loaded ?
Finally, there are a bunch of programs on the PDA that I would like on my desktop, but there doesn't seem to be a disk for them so I can install them. These programs show up in the ActivSynch "Options" tab. They are Calendar, Contacts, Notes, Tasks, Contacts (a second one) and Appointments.
Part of the attraction for me to finally get a PDA was for me to be able to enter items into a calendar, or enter notes, or appointments, or make a to-do-list on my DESKTOP then be able to synch all that stuff to my PDA so I can have them with me everywhere I go, for meetings for work etc.
A guy I work with has a PalmPilot and he showed me once the calendar program that he can bring up on his desktop, enter stuff, and it appears on his Palm.
How do I get those programs that are on the Dell X5 onto my desktop so I can do the same thing ?
Sorry for asking so many questions. I'm still a newbie at this PDA thing.
