This might be a lengthy question, but I want to be as specific as possible. I am in the market for a PDA (new owner). I have been drawn to the X3i because of the Wi-Fi reviews being so high. The main reason I am getting the PDA is because I am going to be away from home for seven weeks this summer without internet access. The place that I am traveling, however, seems to not have any Wi-Fi hotspots as best I can tell., the closest hotspot being roughly 20 minutes away. I want to get a PDA with e-mail capabilities, but with the internet connection being at the cheapest possible option. I do not have a Bluetooth enabled phone, so that option is out. I do, however, have an LG VX4400B with Verizon service. I recently saw a cable that connects my phone to the Axim and then a internet connection was possible.

I am currently a university student and have free dial-up internet access through the university into their modem pool. What I want to know, hopefully from anyone that has or is currently using this connection type, are a few things.

Is it possible for me to simply dial the dial-up number from my cell phone, while connected to the PDA and connect that way, using my current cell phone minutes. Or...do I have to go through the Verizon NationalAccess calling plan and pay the extra $39 a month in order to get online. One last question...how reliable is the connection in the "middle of nowhere" Iowa?

Hopefully I have made myself clear, but please feel free to ask any clarification questions as I check back regularly.

As far as I know, you should have no troubles dialing and connecting from your cellphone, to your universities internet connection. This option works with any phone that has data capabilities. You are just recreating your way of connecting at home. And no, you 'shouldn't' need to pay any money (check with your service provider for sure though).

As for reliability. Depends on how good of service Verison provides in your area. The more dead areas that you have, will effect how good your over-all net connection is. To the best of my recollection, cellphones only transmit at 14.4 bps So it really isn't that fast. But not too bad for checking e-mail (no attachments though)

Hope it helps,
Shane
