For some reason active sync quit working on the pc. I uninstalled it, downloaded the most current version (3.7 something), and the first time my free ed. of zone alarm popped up asking me if I wanted activesync to access the internet, I said no & remember. Second time, I sighed and said yes. I think I turned off something that activesync needs because now evertime it runs, I get a message that a critical component can't run.
Anyone here familiar with the freebie zone alarm? I can't seem to find where I can undo a program setting.
Before I rebooted, I was still able to connect to the axim. But now, probably not. The circle thing isn't even trying to turn green.
My next step is to uninstall & reinstall again. I can't understand why microsoft thinks ALL of it's programs should access the bloody internet!

I believe that ActiveSync and Zone Alarm doesn't work properly with one another. In fact there is a chance that you might not able to use File - Explore, synchronize files or Add/Remove Programs, and turning off ZA is not going to solve the problem - you have to uninstall ZA for ActiveSync to work.

I'm running Zone Alarm Pro right now. I don't have any problem with it and ActiveSync. Nor did I have a problem with the free version of ZA. ZA will ask you not only if a program on you computer can access the Internet, but will also ask if a program can access you computer. It's alright to say OK if you know what is doint the asking.

I haven't used ZA in a long time (Sygate now), but if memory serves, there should be an option somewhere in there that allows you to change the permissions settings for any application that has tried to access the internet. Look for something that says Applications. I'm sorry I don't remember where it is, but there is a way to do it. (hint: I think if you look in the Security settings, it may be in there).

Someone I know who uses zone alarm and has for some time said that they have taken away some of the configurability (ie change permissions) from the free edition. I surely couldn't find, although I'll look again.
I got a request again for allowing activesync to access the net, so I said yes and it seems to be working now. I don't sync - only explore, delete, transfer files, etc. Don't know if it has affected how it syncs.
Thanks for the info, though.

I have ZoneAlarm basic freebie and it works fine with Activesync.
I seriously doubt that ZA has more limited program permission control in the free version, tho i have no proof and havent ever used pro.
TO FIX IT: right-click ZA in your system tray (lower right) and restore ZA control center. click Program COntrol on the side. NOw make sure the Programs tab is selected. FOr me, Activesync is the first item on the resulting list; make sure it has checks or question marks instead of X's.
Hope it helps and sorry i haven't posted this earlier,

Try to open the ZA Program Control and delete the activeSync entry in the list. Then the next time your Axim tries to sync ZA should pop up asking if ActiveSync can act like Server and so on, just click yes everytime.
Had the same problem, but now it´s working.

(!) (!) (!) Right click on the little ZA Icon on the lower bottom right of the screen (Taskbar), then you want to shutdown/ or disconnect ZA. It will then work perfectly. I was syncing my axim on my brother's computer and couldn't figure it out (Didn't realize he had Zone Alarm) He told me to do this. Anyways, do that and everything will work fine, its the firewall that wont let you do anything
