You did that on the PC right? you may have to try a cable connection, and the address I posted was just an example, you need the specific address for your router. Have you tried connecting to an open access point. Try a McDonald's, they have free wifi

Wireless connection - quick note
Just a quick comment while passing through, my router has trouble handing out dns server addresses, so although the connection is up and working I can't access the internet, I have to enter the dns server addresses manually in the wireless adapter settings - just a thought.

Pedah,
Thanks again for the reply.
Regarding the address you posted, I did enter the address of my router - to no avail. This whole problem has started me thinking about dumping the Axim in favor of a device that is much simpler to use. I know people whose PDAs jump right on the wireless system to which I'm trying to connect. I have tried the Axim in other locations with Wifi, also with no luck as I get the same 'Cannot Connect' message.
Without step-by-step instructions, I am at a loss.
I appreciate your trying to help me, but it looks like a lost cause.

jimf,
It seems like I tried to manually enter the router's address. But, it still did not connect. I'll follow up on that this evening and give it another try.
Thanks,
BP

Hi all, a newbie here.
I bought an x51 the other day and could also not connect to the internet or access the wifi.
After following loads of duff instructions from the Dell site I found their forum only to discover some heartbreaking news.
The x51 416mhz version does not have wlan wifi only bluetooth,
The 520mhz version carries the wlan wifi.
Just thought I'd add this as it seems there are many of us going around in circles trying to get a connection without the correct equipment.
Anyone that is stuck with a wirelessless 416 can purchase a wlan card to connect.
Hope this helps those in the same position I found myself in yesterday.

problems with wireless connections
I have the same issues as pennrg, though I have a Dell Axim 30, with built-in wireless capabilities. As suggested above, I did check my router, and it is broadcasting in mixed mode (b+g+n). Yet, I have the same issues. My Axim recognizes the wireless connection (says it is excellent, in fact on the W-Lan utility page) but when I open explorer and try to connect to any site, it says to check setting and so forth, just as pennrg discussed "Cannot connect with the current settings. To change your settings, tap Settings." I too, would really appreciate detailed instructions or links to where I may get that information.
Regards and many thanks.
