Hello there.
I recently bought myself a BT-77 bluetooth GPRS adapter, and even though i RTFM (Read The...... Manual :) ) I cannot connect.
I have paired the two devices, and I kinda get lost at the bit where you set the new outgoing and new incoming COM ports.
My PC is currently set to COM port 7, and the only other option is COM port 8 for both incoming and outgoing.
Is there a way to open more COM ports, and how do you actually connect to another bluetooth device, as I have found the AXIM x51 kinda rubbish in its Bluetooth navigation options.
Thanks in advance :D
EDIT: sorry, not GPRS, but GPS issue

The Axim BT configuration could be more friendly, but it works once set up properly. Have a look at my Bluetooth guide (http://www.aximusers.com/forum/showthread.php?t=6127) to familiarize yourself with the options.
Make sure your Axim is not controlling your ports for a GPS that isn't there. In Start-->Settings-->GPS, disable all the options (hardware none, software none, uncheck automanage). Sometimes it's good to just delete whatever you've configured in the Bluetooth manager and allow the Axim to redetect BT devices from scratch after recreating outgoing/incoming ports.

Hi buddy, it's me.
I noticed that you thinking of trying to set your Axim COM port 8 for both incoming and outgoing bcos your PC is using COM7.
Do this:
1.Set Incoming to COM 7.
2. Set Outgoing to COM 8.
Think of it this way:
Food goes IN thru the mouth.
It comes OUT ... some way else.
This theory works for all devices.

It is impossible to set a port as both incoming and outgoing. I believe what Supercow meant was that COM 8 is available for either incoming or outgoing and his COM 7 is already configured.

Hi Mahstah,
I agree with you that it is impossible to use/create a single port for both incoming & outgoing signals.
I believe Supercow was confused ... his statement "My PC is currently set to COM port 7, and the only other option is COM port 8 for both incoming and outgoing."
Sounds like he "thought" that he cannot use COM7 bcos his desktop is using it. All he has to do is set his incoming & outgoing ports opposite each other.
He is thinking of opening more ports. He is not aware that he can re-use both ports (7/8) for each different partnerships.
========
Hi Supercow,
Just to clarify your post:
1. Are you thinking that since your PC is using COM7, you can only have COM8 for both IN & OUT ports?
2. Are you trying to create another port because COM7 is used by PC; and COM8 if used for INCOMING, you need 1 more for OUTGOING (i.e. COM9)?
The ports (COM7, COM8) that you set up in your Axim, is for the Axim only.
It has nothing to do with your PC (desktop).
You can re-use the 2 ports for each different device (partnership). It means you can use COM7 & COM8 many times. You don't have to create new ports.
I hope this helps & eventually resolve what you're trying to achieve.
=======
The step by step guide attached below is removed to avoid confusing the user. It is for a different device (Bluetooth GPS Receiver).

Hi guys, thanks for the replies.
Yes currently my PC is already on Port 7, and the only other port i can see in the list is port number 8, hence me not beeing able to set the "in and out" (that sentence did make sense in my head :) )
Reading your post enquerir, you mean that I can use com port 7 (on Axim) for use for GPS, since the com ports have already been set on my PC ?
Mahstah, its coz of that thread of yours i originally got my PDA sync'ed via BT on my PC/activesync :D

Hi Sup3rc0w,
"Reading your post enquerir, you mean that I can use com port 7 (on Axim) for use for GPS, since the com ports have already been set on my PC ?"
If you're defining ports in ''Start/Settings/Connection/Bluetooth/COM Ports''?, then it's YES, use it.
The serial ports, COM7 & COM8, that you set here is for Axim only. One is use for IN, the other is use for OUT.
Please ask if this is hot clear.

I'm still missing something here.
I saw a reply Mahstah posted in some other thread about the same topic, and changed a corrupted serial entry (had some weird russian dll description hingy )
I still dont know how to actually connect to the BT device
On my PDA, the BT settings are as follows now
BT GPS (COM 8)
Incoming port (COM7) -----------> was under the impression that I had set outgoing as above and that 7 will be incoming, and will read like this BT GPS Incoming (COM7) or something to that effect
New outgoing Port
In my GPRS setting on PDA I have the following
GPS program port COM1
GPS Hardware port COM8 Baud rate 9600
Manage GPS Automatically, checked
In TomTom "Other Bluetooth GPS" configuration i have the following
Native IR:
COM3:
BT UART on COM5:
Serial Cable on COM1:
Im confused :(

It's difficult to guess when you are not specific. You should also use the manufacture's default settings.
Try this:
GPS Program Port: COM4
GPS Hardware Port: COM1
Baud Rate: 4800
(appears low, but should not be a problem)
Have you tried Mahstah's suggestion? ... disabled GPS management (set program/hardware com port to (none) and uncheck manage GPS).
Its important that you let others know what you have or have not done.
In the manual, to connect, you press & hold your device & select Connect.
You should also check with the manufacturer for driver update (if any).
You mentioned about corrupted serial entry. Since you mentioned, here is the fix, to the corrupted COM1. It will ONLY fix corrupted COM1 & nothing else.
1. Use/start a registry editor on your AXIM.
2. Go to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\BuiltIn\Serial
3. Look for a key FriendlyName with the data Se?a ?a?d? st? COM1:
4. Change that broken string to:
Serial Cable on COM1:
5. Exit the editor using File/Exit.
6. Do a Complete Power Off ... your Axim.
After you restart, you should see "Serial Cable on COM1".
Is your BT working ... can establish partnership?
Your TomTom settings are good.
If you have a problem or any other problem, ask directly. An indirect question will lead to an indirect respond, i.e. mislead.
Good luck.

In the manual, to connect, you press & hold your device & select Connect.
Thats what I cannot get my head around, the BT interface in the Axim, if I press down and hold on the partnered device I want to connect to, the only options that come up are
Edit
Delete
Set as Hands free (greyed out)
Also getting really frustrated, as i know my post isnt too clear, but its the best I can do, since Im more confused than a chicken that Laid a Ballbearing.
I cannot find ANY step by step guide on the net on how to set up BT GPRS with the Axim51v and TomTom
(found great one on Activesync and BT on a link on these very forums )

Your EDIT/DELETE options means you have not established partnership.
Follow Mahstah's advice above. Delete the incorrect partnership, & pair again.
Ignore the GPS configuration that I gave you bcos there were based on wrong info provided.
After you've paired the devices, start the GPS utility software (TomTom).
It should connect without having to do anything else. Leave settings to factory default.
Make sure you have the port set up properly in the GPS utility software (TomTom):
COM port set to 7.
Baud rate: Check your manual (4800/38400/57600)
Good luck.

From the first post, I thought we were talking about a GPRS card (General Packet Radio Service), a cell phone internet connection card and not a GPS.
In the Edit option in your BT devices tab, is there Serial Port available as a service option? You need to have your GPS device set as a serial port. If this option is not available, delete and pair the BT GPS again, making sure to enable the secure option with a passcode if your BT-77 has one. Make the device discoverable while you pair, it helps for some devices.

Sorry I wasnt clear in my original post.
Yea, its exactly what I have done, and now just did again.
Here are the step by step actions I took to pair devices.
Bluetooth >> Settings >> Mode>> Turn on Bluetooth
Bluetooth >> Settings >> Mode>> Make this device discouverable to other
devices
Bluetooth >> Settings >> Devices>> New Partnership >> Searching found BT GPS
Click on BT GPS >> Next >> Passkey 0000 (default of manufacturer >> Next
Display Name BT GPS >> Select services to use from this device >> Serial Port >> Finish
Now the Partmnership shows up in the Devices List
Tap and hold BT GPS all I get is Edit, Delete, Set as hands free.
Same goes for all the other items I paired.. my phone, my PC, my sisters phone... you get the Idea :)

OK, the Serial Port option in the services available for the device is good.
The hands free option is only available if you're connecting to a headset.
How is your outgoing port configured now?

Sup3rc0w,
If you have a BT-77 GPS receiver, TomTom, & trying to make them work with your phone, check this out:
http://www.bluetoothgpstips.com/Pairing_a_bluetooth_bt77_gps_and_pda.html
If paragraph 1 above applies to you, read the sections in the following order:
1. Pairing Bluetooth GPS Receiver and Pda
2. Configure Pda, BT77 Bluetooth GPS and TomTom
3. Identify Outbound Bluetooth Serial Com Port
4. Setting up Nokia 6630, Tomtom Mobile 5 and a Bluetooth GPS
You'll learn how to configure BT devices, GPS, TomTom ... lots of mages.

Now I have in the list BT GPS (COM7)
New Outgoing port
New Incoming port
Tap New incoming port >> Choose COM8>> Finish
Now i go back to devices >> Tap and hold BT GPS >> all i get is the same old crappy Edit, Delete and Grey Handsfree .. woohoo :(

Supercow,
Now that you've set your outgoing com port as COM7, use it in TomTom.
Go to TomTom:
Change preferences icon/Show GPS status icon/Configure/.
• Select your Outgoing Bluetooth serial port (COM 7).
• Select your baud rate.
If you see some bars, that's good ... you are connected.

Not quite yet :o
From all the options, the one Im assuming is my Bt-77 , is the " Other Bluetooth GPS"... when i press select, i get "PLease pair your GPS and your PDA/smartphone .. blah blah blah... and i press continue.
The the following appears
Native IR:
Com3
BT UART on COM5
Serial Cable on COM1
No matter which of these options i click on, it just takes me back to the GPS status screen thingy.
I read on some other forums (might be these not too sure) that another guy also had BT-77 GPS and had to select " Other Cable NMEA GPS". When i select that option, it does in fact ask my Baud rate (9600) ... and when i come to click on any of the options there, same happens :( (cant actually tell tomtom which com port to use)
ps: forgot to mention, yes i indeed still have a question mark in front of my BT Gps icon in BT devices list

I too have a question mark in front of my BT GPS but it works fine.
I'm wondering if there is a compatibility issue with the X51 and BT-77.
You seem to have configured the correct options.
Where is Drifter, he uses TomTom on a bunch of PPCs...

Hi Sup3rc0w,
Let's try again. Make sure BLUE LIGHT is flashing.
All your settings looks fine, but you need to define your Outgoing Bluetooth serial com port (COM7) in TomTom.
Since you've no luck w/ "Other Bluetooth GPS", try "Other cable NMEA GPS".
In TomTom
1. Select "Change preferences" icon.
2. Go to the "Show GPS status" icon.
Select it.
3. Select Configure.
4. Select "Other cable NMEA GPS".
5. Select your outgoing bluetooth serial port: COM 7.
Baud rate: 9600
TomTom will take you back to the GPS status screen.
If you see BLUE BARS .... enjoy.
If you see GREY ones ... wait l0 seconds, it may be trying to acquire data.
If no joy, post here:
• TomTom ver (you may need update).
• BT/GPS device model, etc.
• Whatever you think is helpful to help troubleshoot.
Good luck.

I'm starting to wonder if my TomTom installation isnt buggered.
Just like with the other BT devices, I cannot actually change the port number in the TomTom options at all. I click on the serial port, but it doesnt let me specify which port it should go to.

Above, enquerir suggested a serial port registry fix. Your next post didn't mention it, did you try it? Multiple cases of TomTomNoPortitis have been cured with that registry edit.

Sup3rc0w,
ROM A06 has the BT stack improvement. Make sure your x51v is upgraded.
TomTom v4.x might not work properly w/ WM5.
I know it sounds silly. Make sure all physical connections are hook up ... serial cable, if any.
The link I provided above actually shows how to configure the BT-77 GPS receiver w/ TomTom which I believed is what you have. It has lots of screen images ... step by step. Its worth spending 5 minutes on it.
Best of luck.

Went through that link, and you guys pretty much covered everything in that article, still with no results unfortunately.
The BT-77 is indeed the same model I have, and does work just fine with my Nokia.
I did want to upgrade to rom A06, but I only have the 520MGHZ version of the axim.
I think i'll reeinstall tomtom anyways, just to cover all my bases.

After having a chat with Drifter, he has spotted the issue !!
I have version 5.0 of TomTom, which is not compatible with the X51V, and I need tp upgrade to 5.2.
Ill do it tonight and letya know :)

Sup3rc0w,
Your 1st post says you've X51V. That's why I mentioned ROM A06 upgrade.
In my previous post, I hinted TomTom v4.x hoping that you can catch it. I think the latest is v5.21 ... fix for WM5.0.
Glad to see you're getting closer & moving in the right direction.

Sup3rc0w,
Your 1st post says you've X51V. That's why I mentioned ROM A06 upgrade.
I dont have the top model (620 MHz i think), mine is the one below (520MHz) and AFAIK the rom update isnt compatible.
Cheers for that though, I'll get some time over the weekend to get it sorted out :)

**edit** ahh realised the typo I made is misleading .. ahem .... Axim 51 that is :)
