If you are going to use a router, you don't need WinProxy to share the internet connection, unless, you are using dial-up internet service. If you are using DSL or Cable, the router will provide internet sharing using NAT( Network Address Translation)
Generally, a wireless router serves numerous purposes. It is a router, a switch, a firewall, and a Wireless Access Point.
Most wireless routers have 5 ports on the back. One is an uplink port into which you plug the cable from your modem and you can plug "wired" computers into the 4 remaining ports. Additionally, you can connect wirelessly. A wireless router is great when you have multiple internet capable devices.
Also, couldn't you use a PCMCIA ethernet adapter on your Winbook? That might be the way to, as you can get both wired and wireless cards rather inexpensively.
I use the D-Link DI-624 Wireless "G" router. There are others from Linksys and netgear.
