Keyboard Conundrum

Hello, my name is Jesse I'm very intrested in the axim, and have a question or two. Any help or wisdom would be greatly apreciated.

Currently I'm a college student I've been studying for 2 years and am about to transfer up to univercity, after which I really hope law school, so I'm looking quite a bit of studying. I sit for 3 hours at a time at a desk with a pencil and a piece of paper scribbling maddly while trying to listen to the professor...this obviously isn't working I'm taking illegible notes while not giving my full attention to what the prof is saying.

Last week I took a look behind me and saw this girl with a laptop, and not a modern laptop from dell which is sleak and new; but one of those old monsters, a 12 pound buffalo, I had to stiffle a laugh as she came into class late and started to boot the jurassic relic up, the machine was still loading up OS Me while we were onto the second page of notes.


I'm a student that is willing to put some money into a machine that is small has a word processor, a full size keyboard and boots up quick and without to much contankering and motivation. WiFi sounds like the crazyest thing around to me so I pretty much lost control of all bodyly functions when I happend across the X3i last week, I've had at the PFD manual and like what I see (I'm still a little unclear as to some of the WiFi functions but in due time).

Here is what I plan to do. I have pretty much fallen for the X3i so I hope there isn't too much dissapointment in terms of responces. I want to be able to type about 2 pages of notes at a time on a full size keyboard, I can type faster than I can write so keyboard lag will not be tolerated.

* I'm worryed about the keyboard makeing too much noise in class, I normaly don't pound at the keys at home so I don't hear too much noise but I want to make sure that some of the keyboards that are on that market don't make a racket to the point of it disterbing the class...any experiance with this would be greatly apreciated.*

Are there X31 leather cases that don't hinder the keyboard connection jack? If they all do, does infra red have lag between when you hit the key and when it shows up on the screen? I really really hope it doesn't.

I haven't noticed any lag time with this product thus far . . . It's well worth the $5.

Haven't had any experience with external Axim Keyboards . . .

Somewhere, probably here, I saw a news article about the next generation of pocket pc's coming out. Motorola is coming out with one that flips open with a keyboard.

I like my x5 and Belkin wireless keyboard, but it might not cut it for taking notes in class, although you would have a desk, so maybe.... The keyboard I have doesn't make any more clicking noise than my laptop keyboard or mouse click.

Any jostling of it tho and it loses signal & you have to reposition - a distraction when you're trying to listen in class to be sure. Although if you got a keyboard that attached wtih a wire.... might be more stable. A friend has a Palm IIIc and a wired keyboard, but the keyboard doesn't have it's own power (ie battery) and sucks out battery life on his palm, so he rarely uses it. A consideration in choosing keyboards, to be sure.

Only other alternative is a subnotebook, and I don't know anything about those, but they look pretty slick on tv. lol
