This might be a lengthy question, but I want to be as specific as possible. I am in the market for a PDA (new owner). I have been drawn to the X3i because of the Wi-Fi reviews being so high. The main reason I am getting the PDA is because I am going to be away from home for seven weeks this summer without internet access. The place that I am traveling, however, seems to not have any Wi-Fi hotspots as best I can tell., the closest hotspot being roughly 20 minutes away. I want to get a PDA with e-mail capabilities, but with the internet connection being at the cheapest possible option. I do not have a Bluetooth enabled phone, so that option is out. I do, however, have an LG VX4400B with Verizon service. I recently saw a cable that connects my phone to the Axim and then a internet connection was possible.
I am currently a university student and have free dial-up internet access through the university into their modem pool. What I want to know, hopefully from anyone that has or is currently using this connection type, are a few things.
Is it possible for me to simply dial the dial-up number from my cell phone, while connected to the PDA and connect that way, using my current cell phone minutes. Or...do I have to go through the Verizon NationalAccess calling plan and pay the extra $39 a month in order to get online. One last question...how reliable is the connection in the "middle of nowhere" Iowa?
Hopefully I have made myself clear, but please feel free to ask any clarification questions as I check back regularly.
