I recently purchased the card and inserted the card into my Axim
400mhz unit but having trouble backing-up or copying
onto the card?? During back-up it freezes the unit. During saving or
copying, the unit gives me an error message to check if the files to be
copied are read-only or other status'. My copying of files is done through
PC to PPC or from the PPC built-in storage memory to the SD
card, mostly drag & drops.

Have any insight?? What could be the problem or setting? There are no
special setup procedures for the card...right?...just "plug and play"? Note
that the Lock feature is not enabled. Please help.

I'd first format the card as FAT (some people have problems with FAT32) using a USB card reader rather than the Axim formatting program.

Also, look at the back of the card and verify it was made in Japan, rather than China or Taiwan. The Japanese cards seem to give people the least problems.

There should be no special set up requirements. A number of these cards have had reported difficulty with copying very large files and copying multiple files at one time.

thanks, Chudman; My last but most likely final resort is to (re)format...also, the card is labeled Made in Japan.

I think you also should have a "My Documents" folder on the card (without the quotes)...I don't really know how much of a difference this makes but I saw it posted a long time ago and have always made sure to have this folder on my card. It's been so long ago that I read this but I thought that SOME programs automatically search first for applications in this folder on a card.
I don't know if this would be contributing to your problems (?).

Someone please jump in if this is or is not correct.

And, I've always used a product called Flash Format (from handango) and have had the best luck with my cards using this to format. It will give you the option to automatically add the "My Documents" folder on the card.

The AXIM options for formatting is either FAT16* or FAT32, I know someone else recommended not using the 32....what's the technical difference...ARE THERE ADDITIONAL ADVISE OUT THERE?

FAT32 requires more overhead. Go with FAT16.
I don't think the format command will initiate a FAT32 format due to the size of your storage card.

It's formatted but can't seem to back-up to it...should backing only be associated to the Built-in Storage?

I've heard that there's problems with any 512mb SD card in an Axim. I'll try to find out what's going on and get back to you..
