I've been spending the past week trying to get my desktop PC to synch using the Dell Cradle that works just fine on my laptop.
The problem was, I was getting a 'connection dropped' on my Axim or a 'Version not compatible' message on my desktop every time i connected to it. With the help of other Axim users on this site, I tried everything to get it work. Since everything worked fine on my laptop it appeared to be a Driver problem or A.S. problem. I un-installed and re-installed A.S. and the drivers so many times I can't count. Did a hard reset, tried different ways of installing, EVERYTHING! The desktop would sense the Axim and install the drivers but I would always drop the connection or get the 'Version not compatible' message after installing and using A.S.
I bought an OEM travel synch cable off of Ebay and just got in the mail today. I connected it to my desktop and Axim and BAM it connected, it asked if i wanted a partnership and synched up!
I then switched back and forth (desktop w/ travel cable, Laptop w/ Dell cradle) and it connected and synched data.
So I then re-connected the Dell Cradle to the desktop and BAM I had the same problem as before ('Version not compatible' message on my desktop).
Both USB ports are the same version on my desktop and laptop.
Could there be a design flaw with the Dell Cradle? Or just a defective cradle???? One would think that if it was a defective cradle there would be some similar problems on both machines. But it works just fine on my Laptop.
Also, the OEM travel cable works just fine on both machines.
I guess we can't always assume that the cradle is good even though it works on one machine but not another! For those having problems with syching data, it could be a defective cradle! Or worse yet, there is a design flaw in it!
VERY STRANGE! I plan to contact Dell and speak to them about it.
