Comp. Ninja, your review is VERY detailed! good resource...some minor additions and observations:
1. While syncd with my Axim, I used the file explorer on my laptop to click and drag the map files onto my SD card. It took a while but less than 2 minutes...your review mentions that it took 20 minutes via active sync and less than 2 via card reader. I got lucky for some reason.
2. One downside of the Ostia software is that it doesn't give a lot of Points of interest. It has basic stuff like, airports, downtown, rest areas and such...no restaurants, hotels, stripclubs etc. On second thought, forget about this...I live in a crappy town and there is nothing interesting here. You have to buy Pharos' "smart navigation" paid subscription to get more POIs. Other software has more points of interest. I may buy Microsoft's streets and trips...even a 2002 would be enough to get by.
Once again, your review would be VERY helfpul for people considering a GPS purchase. Folks, overall I'm happy with Pharos. THe GPS itself performs great. Cold start (when you turn it on to acquire satellite connection) takes fairly long (2-3 minutes) but navigation is accurate, voice prompts are clear, re-routing is easy, albeit a bit slow, graphics are clear and pleasant, and the satellite/compass views are totally sexy. Also, at this price it is impossible to find a car charger, plus external antenna, plus pda car mount...maps for the entire US and a compact flash wireless GPS!
