Hi all,
I'm new to this, I'm looking to buy some wireless equipment, But I don't know what to buy ... I'm going to buy a axim x5 400mhz with the "True Mobile™ 1180 802.11b Wireless Compact Flash Card"
but I don't know what to buy to make a wireless connection for
(1) the Computer at work, to connect my axim to the network ...
(2) my computer at home, ...
I want to use Linksys because Dell has good prices on them and I can pay for it all at one time ! these are two items I was Looking at but I don't know if I can use either one BEFW11S4 or WAP11
any input would greatly be appreciated

Both of those will work for you. The difference between the two is: the WAP11 is just an access point, and the BEFW11S4 is a router with wireless access point.
Basically, with the BEFW11S4 you have the wireless access point, AND you can hook up to 4 computers to it via network cable. Connection in, and up to 4 computers hardwired, plus WiFi.
The WAP11 is just a wireless access point. Connection in, WiFi out.
I have the BEFW11S4 and I like it. I have 3 computers hooked up to it, plus I have my PDA and my laptop wireless.

Be sure the get the v2 of the WAP/Router. I believe v1 has some problems with DHCP and wireless. 2_Hotty actually can't get DHCP to work with his wireless cards.

I purchased the Dell TrueMobile 1184 Wireless Broadband Router.
It has worked "flawlessly" as a DHCP server for my Axim and Home Computer. I have some friends that got the LinkSys router and they were all impressed with the level that the Dell router's firmware will go.
It is very flexible - Can set up a range of IP Addresses, you can assign IP Addresses to specific MAC addresses, etc.... B)
As for my card, I have posted on here before, I got an SMC Compact Flash/PCMCIA adaptor card. Actually, I ordered my Dell Axim over the phone with a rep and this is what he recommended. I am glad he did. It has great reception. My router is in the top level of my house, and I usually access the net from the basement. I have a Strong signal all of the time.
I have my home computer connected directly to the Router with an RJ45 cable. My cable modem connection is in the same room as the computer, so I did not need to go wireless with that connection.
I have seen on Dell's site wireless receivers for desktops that plug into a USB on the computer. They look like they would be pretty slick if you need to connect your desktop to your router in another room.
Hope that helps.

Thanks for all the inputs, after reading 2_hotty's reply, I had placed my order with Dell for the Axim X5 400mhz and 2 linksys BEFW11S4 ... shipping date is feb/10th ... I can't wait !
Ummm if the Linksys BEFW11S4, isn't "V2" do you think Dell will exchange them if it doesn't work properly ?

Dell MAY replace it, but you have to prove to them that it doesn't work. Also, 2_hotty's router/wap might actually be faulty. So even if yours is not v2, it might still do wireless DHCP.

I have a question for you 2_hotty, or anyone else that can help. With the BEFW11S4 Linksys router, do you have to use it as a router? I already have a router here, but if i would get that, would i have to replace the router I have here with the BEFW11S4, or would I just be able to run a network cable from the BEFW11S4, to my wired router, and use it as an access point instead? I was only wondering because if that would work, that would allow for a little longer range for the WiFi card, a little over 200 more feet, which would allow the WCF11 to work at its almost farthest range B)
