Dell Axim x51v connection problem
Hi, I'm having a problem connecting my Axim X51V to my home network. My wireless router at home is a Linksys WRT54GX (with the latest firmware installed). I'm using WEP on the router and not broadcasting the SSID. I'm sure the router is working ok, since other devices are able to connect to it.When I try to connect by Axim, it does not even see the router (it sees my neighbors routers but not mine). The WLAN utility will sometimes show a Hidden Network for the SSID but still not connection. When I enable the router to broadcast the SSID, the Axim will connect, it there anyway around this. I really don't want to have to broadcast the SSID.
Please Help, I' stumped

I've never connected my Axim to a network with a hidden SSID, but I do it with my laptop all the time. The reason the PDA won't connect when the SSID is hidden is because its hidden! There has to be a place in the network settings to enter the SSID of the network you want to connect to (like on a laptop). If you have WEP enabled (sounds like you don't), then you'll have to enter the network key as well.
I'll poke around on my PDA this evening and see if I can find the settings. Perhaps someone might beat me to it.

OK, I hid the SSId on my network and then enabled wireless on the Axim. I went to the Start/Settings/Connections and tapped on the Dell WLAN Utility icon. From there go to the Config tad and enter in the name of your SSId in the Pref SSId spot. That's it! It should work from there. You might have to enter in the channel your router is broadcasting on as well, but you might not.

The SSID for the network is configured correctly. If I unhid the SSID on the router, the PDA will connect right up without me making additional changes. If the SSID is hidden, it will no longer connect to the router. Also, I am using WEP and have checked that the encryption is set correctly (more times then I can count). I have a hunch that this is a problem with the combination of the Linksys router and the Axim. I'm able to connect to a friend's Netgear router with a hidden SSID without problem.

I wasn't implying that the network isn't configured correctly. I was saying that if the SSId isn't being broadcast, the PDA has no way of knowing it's there and won't connect. That's why I checked this out my system and wanted to make sure you were manually entering the SSId into the PDA's config screen.
Sorry, but this is about all the help I can offer without having the thing in front of me.

You cannot enter any information in the Config tab of the Dell WLan Utility. This applies to all the other grey tabs, i.e. Main, Site, Advanced, Tools, Transmit, & Receive. The grey tabs only display what the Axim transmit/receive.
SSId, Pref SSId, BSSId, whether broadcast or not cannot be entered manually onto the Axim (greyed out).

Turh on your Dell WLan Utility. Go to Network Cards. Click on your hidden network. Select the Network Key tab. Post what you see except your WEP key.
