wireless G connection
I have a wireless G broadband router at home, and my Axim X51v is picking up the signal. When I go to Settings--Dell WLAN Utility--site, it shows that the Axim is getting a good signal...but there's a lock by the network. When I go to the config tab, I can't change anything. I've tried to set up new connections, but it either asks me for a modem or VPN, neither one of which apply.
I have the keys/passwords/etc., but don't know where to go on the Axim to enter that info. How do I get to the point where I can enter whatever security is necessary to access that home network?

You would go to 'Start'-'Settings'-'Connections'(lower right hand corner). Then tap the 'Network Cards' icon, then select 'Add New...' to begin to setting up a new connection.
However the Axim is only compatible with 802.11a or 802.11b standards. Not g. You will need a dual band router (b and g) to be able to connect your Axim to your network first.

Thanks for following up. 2 notes:
1. It is broadcasting B & G.
2. When I get to "network cards", "New" isn't an option. The page I get is titled "Configure Network Adapters", has a dropdown to select work or internet, and lists the adapters (Dell Axim X51 WLAN, 6 others).

Hi flangn,
Your broadcast (mixed-mode) is fine. Keep it.
Your description tells me that you're using WEP encryption which is fine.
Go to the following & let me know what you see:
Settings > Connections > Dell WLan Utility
Advanced tab
1. Authentication:
2. Gateway: (I don't expect you to have anything here.)
3. IP address: (You might have something here.)
Config tab
4. BSS Type:
5. Tx Rate:
We will start with this first. I can also "get" into your router & set it up for you to get your Axim ready for WiFi, that will be the last resort.

Thanks.
That's what I like to see.
3 more questions & I'll tell you what to do:
1. Is your WEP key 10 alphanumerical? (Y/N)
2. Do you have a Key Index (1, 2, 3 or 4)? (Y/N)
DON'T tell me what there are. Answer yes or no.
3. Can you see "Configure Wireless Network" screen when you go to Dell WLan Utility > Setting ?
Don't go away.

3 more questions & I'll tell you what to do:
1. Is your WEP key 10 alphanumerical? (Y/N) it says "64 bits 10 hex digits", and I have set up a passphrase
2. Do you have a Key Index (1, 2, 3 or 4)? (Y/N) 10 digit code under key 1
DON'T tell me what there are. Answer yes or no.
3. Can you see "Configure Wireless Network" screen when you go to Dell WLan Utility > Setting ? No--says "Configure Network Adaptors" (see earlier post)
Don't go away.

Your response to the above 3 questions, as well as what I see in this thread up to this point will determine where to make the appropriate changes. If you make some trial & error input, it will be difficult to tell you exactly what to do.
Your "screen" will change depending on what you've have entered.

I'm in my hot-tub. I'll dry up. My X51V needs battery. I'll be back w/ instructions. Wait 5 minutes.
