I have a d-link di-514 and can't browse through it. Can anyone else? I finally was able to browse with my Axim through some wireless connection near work (who knows whose it was) but I can't do it through my own. I have updated the firmware from D-Link and don't know what to do. Do I have to set up a DHCP? This thing connects with a strong signal but I cannot browse with the webrowser.

Thanks,

Paul

There is a known compatibility issue of Dlink Di-514 router with pocket pc, i would advise you to purchase a new router preferably a linksys router. But make sure that the router that you have is 802.11b compatible.

I have a Linksys G DSL router and my Axim will not access the internet through it. I can go to a coffee shop and log onto tmobile and surf the internet but not at home.

Is there a compatibility issue with the linksys router also? I have call Dell and they have replaced my axim but to no avail.

More info would be nice for troubleshooting. I know of a D-link 614+ which works great with a pocket PC device.
Does the handheld see the wireless link? If so what does it say it is? Are you using WEP on your routers? I am waiting on delivery of my X30H so I can't address the built-in software, but there are other wifi sniffers for the pocket pc out there that might work better. An example would be
http://www.wififofum.org/ and if you have a gps connected will log lat/long for you to a file.

The pocketpcs that are available currently donot support 802.11G, try to change the router to 802.11b or mixed mode, although under mixed mode u may experience a very slow connection.

Setup your PDA for wireless internet

This might be help you solve the wireless internet problem.
Problem:
I also had a same problem before with Axim and Dlink DI514. I went to my cousin's place because he couldn't connect to the internet with his axim x51v which he just bought it using dlink 514 . I connect my axim x30 without problem but I couldn't connect his axim to the internet. I spent hours to solve this problem. Here's how to solve the wireless internet problem (in general)

Router side:
Make sure your router allow you to connect to the internet. In my situation, I put his axim's mac address to the router. I assume, you don't have problem with your wireless setting on your router so we can move on to the next step. I upgrade the firmware to the latest one but I don't think that's necessary to solve the problem. Here's how to check your router setting is a good one. use your pc or laptop to connect to your router. disable your wireless first, then connect it. A good setting doesn't take more than 20 sec to connect your computer to your router. if it takes more, you need to pay attention to your router.

Axim side: (for your information, i don't have the axim x51 with me so I'm not really exactly what;s the menu called)
Turn on your wireless. Usually, you will use your Dell wireless Lan utility. Connect to the your wireless router and make sure you get the IP. If you can't find your wireless or you can't get the ip, you still have problem with your router. Make sure your axim IP is on the same class with your router. for example 192.168.0.1 is your router and 192.168.0.xxx is your axim. The important thing is those 192.168.0 are the same. you don't have to worry with the last one. Once you connect, you can try to connect(ping) to your router by putting your router's ip and then test it.

you will see several attempts to communicate with your router. If you receive several or all "request time out", you need to disable "power save mode" feature. This feature available for windows mobile 5. This is the reason why I couldn't connect to the internet. You don't have to do it if your os is pocket pc 2003. If I set it to enable, all request are timed out. if i set it to auto, 4 out of 5 request are failed. The only way to do it is to disable power save mode. My personal opinion that cause this problem is some router doesn't send a strong signal so for some PDAs that enable "power save mode "don't get enough signal.
Not finish yet.
The last step for your axim:
Go to setting > connection> connections.
Go to Advanced tab> click on Select Networks and you will go to Network Management.
You will see two settings:
-Programs that automatically connect to the Internet should connect using
-Programs that automatically connect to a private network should connect using
which one you should choose: my ISP or my work Network? I'm still not really sure exactly behind it but here's the solution.
First, set both of the settings to "My ISP". Check whether your internet is working or not. If working, congratulations. If not, set both of the settings to "My Work network". It should be working. So if you can't use "My ISP", change to "My work Network" or if you can't use "My work Network" change it to "My ISP".
I'm not sure with this because My axim x30 connect using "My ISP" settings while my cousin's axim x51v connect using "My work network".
I hope this long explanation can solve your wireless internet problem.

More information is needed to diagnose the problem.

Is your handheld connecting to the wireless router?
(as shown in start/settings/connections/networkcards/configure wireless networks?)

chk for mixed mode in your router..if its g mode it wont connect....
chk for wireless encrypion you have on your router...if you have a key enter it in the axim too...make sure you use the same protocols defined in your router..ie wep/open/shared/wpa-psk etc....
if nothing works....simply reboot your router..that solved most of my problem..tho temporariyl....

if still doesnt work...then simply throw your router into the nearby dlink 's building
