What are connections for?

What exactly does the connections applet do? Is a connection necessary for WiFi to work? I have an Axim X3i, I was on the road last week, my wifi seemed to work fine at home before I went, i get home and its not working. I noticed that there used to be a My Work & The Internet connection in there, now there is nothing? How do you add/delete connections for a network card? It seems to be modem based? Do I even need to wory about this for wifi?

Nope, I don't think you have anything to worry about. The Add Connection is more than likely if you want to add a modem or VPN connection. Just using wireless via an access point does not require a new connection to be created.
