Viewing shared files on my Axim

Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

I have successfully setup my axim on my wireless network. I am able to see shared folders and files and even copy them over to my axim quite easily. What I want to do is view shared files on my network without copying them first. When I try to open a file on the axim, it does nothing. When I copy it from the network onto my device, it opens fine.

Any suggestions??? or is this not possible?

My real goal is to access all the .wma files I have on my desktop through windows media player on my axim so I can listen to music while on my treadmill and not take up any memory space on my axim or memory card! Being able to open .doc files would be nice too, but I want my tunes!

how did you made it work for your Axim to see all shared files in the network. I just bought one, but I can not set it up right.

My guess is that it has something to do with the conversion to the pocket pc format that is screwing you up. I'm able to open/stream avi, mpg, mp3 files from my network but when I try to open up doc, xls files they do not work. If you notice sometimes when you copy files to your pocketpc a little dialog comes up saying it'll have to convert the file. Usually the converted file is much smaller than the original, this makes it compatible with the pocket versions of word and excel, hope this helps.

I use Resco Explorer 2003 for this. It is really 4programs in one.

Enhanced Windows File Explorer
Registry Editor
LAN Network Browser
FTP client.

I am able to map shares to all PC's on my LAN and browse them. I often use this to bring up pictures stored on my file server. This is one of my "Must Have" apps for the PPC.

Resco Explorer works great for sharing and listening to mp3s without having to copy the file to your pda. It is a definite must have.
