Here's an idea -- how about a utility that automates the reinstallation of all your software for those times when you do a ROM or PocketPC 2003 upgrade?
There's been a discussion thread on this subject on Pocketpcthoughts.com.
This is different than a backup program -- backups are great for life's everyday disasters, but useless when you do a ROM or operating system upgrade. Here's how I see the application working:
1. Just after you do a hard reset and set up Activesync, you install the utility.
2. As you install other programs on the PocketPC, the utility keeps track of the installs and archives a copy of the CAB files, or whatever else is needed for installation. The files are stored in a folder or file on a flash card. The utility is smart enough to ask for the archine flashcard whenever it is not found.
3. If you uninstall a program from the PocketPC, the utility also removes the files from the archive.
4. A reinstall program is also stored on the flash card as part of the utility package.
5. Should you need to do a reinstall, you do a hard reset (or use a new PocketPC) and just insert the flash card and run the reinstall utility. It automatically reinstalls every program to the location that you originally used.
