DC ...nice comparison.
One thing that stands out that I totally disagree on your comparison: Palm utilized the Xscale processor. Actually both OS doesn't utilized the processor, including the ARM processor - except if this is something new that I have not heard of.
To be honest, it took me a while to get used to using Palm, while with my Pocket PC, I was running right away; thanks to the Windows familiarity.
Another reason why applications on PPC consume more memory because it has the ability to multitask, and if you know how to shutdown the application (w/ out third party software), you don't need to do soft resets.
As for ActiveSync and HotSync, I still prefer ActiveSync because of its simplicity. In fact Palm has switch their sync software to Chapura - which it cannot resolve conflicting schedules in Outlook; hence you will have to install IntelliSync ...about $60 just to resolve that issue.
The only thing to remember with Pocket PC is that you will have to treat the device somewhat like a PC because it does emulate a PC (Yes you still have to clean the Temporary Files), and never consider it just a PIM.
Oh by the way ...my Pocket PC Phone Edition has a vibrate options as well.
