That looks interesting and I actually tried it out, I think it would be fast in the 'texting mode,' once I got used to it, the keys are a good size, and you can still see a little bit of screen real estate while typing.
I am also using the spb fullscreen keyboard, it has worked out pretty well for me also, only complaint is you cant see the output screen and switching the keyboard from full text is a pain without the stylus.
I had the belkin snapon keyboard a while ago and i got tired of carrying it around with the axim, I think the axim would be perfect with one of those built in qwerty style keyboards like the ipaqs have.
