X5 startup jitters

I suppose my Axim was neglected too long and the main battery would not charge at all. O.K. I now have a new battery. I have a new backup battery. I now have a gps cf card I'm dying to use. Unfortunately I have lost my charging cable and sync cable. I bought a dual purpose usb to take care of both situations.
My question is, is there any particular procedure I need to follow for a pain free setup.
