Axim x51v Align Screen problem

I have an axim x51v that is stuck on the Align Screen sequence after getting misalligned somehow. I have carried out hard and soft resets and a clean arround the edges. I can sync it to my pc but the axim update will not proceed until i am past the welcome stage. Has anybody got any idea how to get past this stage or bypass it?
