OK, I solved my problem: I went online to AS troubleshooting. It performed a series of tests and came out with four possible issues, one of them being firewall -Sygate- configuration (which is odd because I used the settings given on MS's site). I turned it off and it worked at once!
Thanks to you all. Now I can spread the gospel!
