Drifter here, sorry for not involving myself sooner as I had been on holiday. DNA obtained his battery from me and it is 100% identical to the original in everyway. Dell use a Varta V20HR in the original assembly and that is exactly what was supplied, fully sealled and identical in dimentions. So if the battery does not fit, then it is likely to be installed incorrectly. Their is a specific location for it.
From replacing batteries in the x3/x30 myself, I do know that the fitting of the motherboard into the case is a tight fit which is why 2 screws are used to tighten it down.
Having read the above posts, I would suggest that perhaps one or more of the connector ribbons are not inserted into their connectors correctly. Specifically the top right cable as you look at the unit. This one is easy to have at a slight angle, causeing a short or false message from the screen.
