Called Dell to beg and plead. Thankfully the outsourced dell technicians were kind enough to replace the x50 despite expired warranty.
Called Friday; Monday morning the courier brought the new unit, and took away the old.
Lesson learned: Avoid third party plugins, if no warranty available.
