It sounds like your POP settings might be incorrect. Check the settings compared to
this site's suggestions.

Outgoing Mail Settings:
Outgoing e-mail uses an SMTP server and requires authentication, which means in order to send e-mail you must log into the SMTP server with a user name and password. The user name and password are the same as your AOL® screen name and password. You will need to choose between:

Server: smtp.aol.com
Port: 587 or 25
OR
Encrypted or SSL Mail:
Not available

Also check the suggestion for a registry hack on
this site. I know it's not for the Axim or WM5 but maybe it'll help, it sounds like it'd be worth a try.
