I think by low level reformat, you are refering to that process on a PC hard disk ??.
A hard reset will remove all user data and present only data that is hard coded into the ROM. This is a little different to a low level reformat.
You will not need the companion CD at all, as the operating system, programs etc are all hard coded into ROM.
Their is no harm in doing a hard reset on a machine that has data you are prepared to loose.
Most axim users try hard to not do one so that they can retain data.
I assume you know how to do a hard reset ???
You have to press and hold at the same time.
Contacts button
Power
Side toggle switch ( push in)
and RESET
Then when the screen clears, relese just RESET and POWER . Hold the other two for about 20 seconds and release.
Most people need a few attempts to do this first time and yes holding all of these together is difficult.
