Yeah!! - I have success. Just to close the loop, here is what I did to get the x5 going again.
1.) Re-installed Axim USB
-Went to Dell's website and downloaded the driver R55367
-Connected the x5 to the cradle, went into settings>control panel>system>device manager and removed the driver (When loading A/S 3.7.1 the Dell USB driver if installed from Dell CD is replaced by Microsoft's driver.
-Uninstalled Active Sync, manually located driver in c:\windows\system32\drivers\wceusbsh.sys and replaced it with upgrade from R55367 executable file.
-Re-installed A/S 3.7.1
2.) Peformed hard reset on x5
-Hard reset is possible with one person. I used the stylus pushed against my leg and used my left hand to hold in the side toggle switch. Then, I used my right hand to stretch between the power and contacts button. I released power/contacts and held firmly to side toggle/reset. Hard boot created white screen, then set-up screen (which prompts to tap screen for alignment)
3.) Connected x5 to ActiveSync and established connection/partnership/and begin slowly re-synching info from Outlook 2k to x5.
Thanks to all for the suggestions. I really appreciate this forum!!!
