I use the simple Windows Media Player (Which is included on Windows 98/XP) to rip cds to mp3. On my X3i I have two volume controls. One at the top of the screen and another at the lower right hand corner when I have my Windows Media Player V.9 open on the X3i. The controls are seperate volume controls. Just play with it and you should get the hang of it.
