Just to add my 2 cents to this discussion, i'm using a sandisk 256 meg card in my X3i and have had no issues with it all. Granted, i've not attempted to turn off the "power save" mode in WiFi because I haven't seen a need but just wanted to say that i've had no problems. I understand your frustration with technical support but you really should understand that most of the time it does take a while to get to that "techie that understands", this saves companies money because if the problem is really low level, and most of them are, then they dont' have to tie up their expensive software engineers fixing the little ones. I know it's not much help, but again, just wanted to speak out. I am very happy with my X3i and would recommend to anyone.
